Our Guest Speaker, Nasiba Akram, has a background in journalism, education and charity and community work. She founded and runs Humanity Australia, a refugee support organisation, and is Community Engagement Lead at Host International. Nasiba, originally an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, has firsthand experience living through the disruption of war, loss, displacement and the journey of settlement.  Since settling in Australia in 1979 she has tirelessly supported the Afghan diasporafrom all ethnicities and backgrounds in Australia, Afghanistan, and globally. She is the recipient of numerous awards and the author of a book of poetry, “Sunset of Loneliness”.
