The active participation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is a critical element in the work of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). NGOs have been influential in shaping the current global policy framework on women’s empowerment and gender equality: the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. They continue to play an important role in holding international and national leaders accountable for the commitments they made in the Platform for Action.
Soroptimist International South West Pacific and its members in 13 countries across the Asia Pacific region, actively participate with the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the United Nations. We work to promote social or political change both at the grass roots level in the delivery of our projects which Educate, Empower and Enable women and girls, as well as advocate to bring about policy change at government levels.
As an NGO we protect women’s rights as human rights; working to eliminate violence against women, gender based violence, education, gender equality by providing opportunities for vocational training, climate action and environmental projects; water harvesting, improved farming techniques, aquaponics, seed raising, our projects address 8 objectives which in turn address and report against the 17 sustainable development goals (SDG’s) and their targets.
