Many months in the making, SI Penang first met in early July 2022 to plan SI Penang’s main fundraiser of the year, the Soroptimist Christmas Fair 2022.

In August, all Members began to sell cash coupons and raffle tickets. Our top raffle prizes were generously donated by Amee Philips Jewellery, Vanessa Diamonds, Macalister Mansion and many others. With 100 prizes, it was a big draw.

To ensure success, AUD40,000 cash coupons were pre-sold.

Our Bake Sale reported AUD4,000 sales and a total estimate of AUD70,000 of sales were enjoyed by the sixty vendors.

HairStory set up a charity haircutting corner at our Fair to give free haircuts to senior citizens and charged nominal fee for younger customers. There was also terrarium workshops were held for children. Large crowds came to enjoy the joyful event

At the Soroptimist Christmas Fair 2022, we also canvassed for cash donations for our School Shoes Project. This project began when we heard schoolchildren were coming to school in slippers/sandals as their parents could not afford (post Pandemic) to buy them school shoes. Set at AUD15   per pair of school shoes with 2 pairs of socks, we succeeded in collecting enough for 365 pairs of school shoes, which will be presented to the schoolchildren of five schools in March 2023 just before the schools reopen.
