SI Griffith - Donation of Bee Houses to Local Schools
As pollinators, bees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They support the growth of trees, flowers, and other plants, which serve as food and shelter ..
SI Griffith club members embraced the suggestion by one of their members, Jennifer Van Den Hoek to purchase Bee Houses and donate these to local schools as one of their contributions to Environment month. Of the 19 schools in the area who were approached, 15 took up the offer to receive one. The items were purchased from a local hardware store and delivered to the schools. Each Bee House had a label attached indicating that it had been donated by Soroptimist International Griffith for World Environment Month 2022.
The club is hoping that the children will be encouraged to monitor the behaviour of insects and bees, to safely navigate the spaces they share with these important creatures and to increase their respect for our precious environment.
