The Federation is saddened to inform you that Mavis Smith, a life member of SI Kapiti Coast, passed away on 15 August 2022.

In Memoriam Mavis Smith (1928 - 2022) no. 1170

A life member of Soroptimist International KДЃpiti Coast, Mavis passed away Monday 15 August, surrounded by her family.

KДЃpiti Soroptimists attended a service to celebrate Mavis' life in Waikanae, where she had spent much of her life, including 40 years of exceptional service to our club and the wider Soroptimist organisation.

One of our charter members, Mavis promoted the Soroptimist values of human rights for all and global peace and international good will. She advanced women's potential, showed integrity and democratic decision making and was a fantastic volunteer, embracing diversity and friendship throughout our organisation.

Mavis was a mentor to club members and the generosity with which she shared her wisdom and knowledge was greatly appreciated. She was always ready to take up a role.

She was involved in community, country and international projects. Her favourites were assisting the under privileged in our community as well as the international project focusing on 'Wells for Senegal'.

Mavis took on many Soroptimist roles including being KДЃpiti Club President in 1984, Soroptimist International New Zealand Central President in 1987 and served as a South West Pacific Federation Councillor with responsibilities for membership and publicity from 1990 - 1994.

As well as being a Soroptimist, Mavis contributed her time and skills to many other organisations, including the local rose and rhododendron societies. She was involved in the Birthright organisation from its inception and was the instigator for our 'Winter Warmer' project ' collecting blankets to keep those in need warm during the cold winter months.

We wish to thank Mavis for being such a wonderful example to us all. She will be sorely missed.
